Shooting IndyCar racing, to me, is just about the greatest thing I get to cover. For the second time, I was given the opportunity to shoot these cars as they returned to Pocono Raceway.
IndyCars are fast, everyone knows that, but on the “Tricky Triangle” they’re scary fast. Its very hard to explain the rush just watching these guys dive into turns at 223 mph, almost flat out over 2.5 miles, three different banked corners for 500 miles. Some would say boring – sure – hell I’ve even said it, but actually watching each car battle the track and each other is amazing to witness. The strange sound of either the 22 cars cutting through the wind or the 44 turbos sucking air gives me chills. I’m honestly jealous they get to do this for a living. Unfortunately the Series may not return to the speedway again due rumors the track is considering opting out of its contract.
Besides the politics I feel fortunate to have seen these guys in person and hopefully will have the opportunity to shoot such an exciting series again at different venues.
